What exhaust would work best for a 90-91 L98 vette and a 92-95 LT1 vette? Im talking about JUST MUFFLERS not the full cat back systems those are too expensive for me for right now. What are the best choices... Borla, Flowmaster, Dynomax, or others? Which mufflers would add the most Horsepower and Torque? and which mufflers would be the loudest? Also i was wondering if you have NO MUFFLERS on your car does that give you more hp and torque than performance mufflers like flowmaster or borla? or does it give you a lot of backpressure or what? is no mufflers good for loudness and performance or is it bad? thanks a lot. :auto:
Put elims on it if money is an issue. Its not necessary to have backpressure, doesnt hurt anything.
I like Power Effects, can be loud or not-so-loud.
Any you pick are going to have the same performance, only real diff is sound. And if you dont put bigger y-pipes on, there will be less of a performance gain.

:iagree:
When it comes to performance gains from mufflers, there might as well be only two categories. stock and aftermarket. They all give you just about the same. If you want loud, get Flowmaster 40's
Here is some feedback on your question (regarding Dynomax) - not a recommendation, just feedback...
My son put a set of Dynomax Super Turbo's with LT1 tips on middle of last summer. He put the car into storage about 6,400 miles later - I wouldn't really call the muffers "broken in". The exhaust was barely louder at idle but the note/tone was noticably lower - on throttle, slightly louder than stock, that's it.
His car is coming out of storage this weekend. He's heading straight for muffler elims... unfortuntely, last fall they cost $149 - they are now $199 in the Mid-America catalog (outrageous). I think he plans to get them custom made at a local muffler shop.
Guys he said no cat back. Why are you telling to him to get PE's when first off it's a cat back and even just getting the mufflers would be expensive compare to Dynomax, flow's. He even wrote in big caps, JUST MUFFLERS
Seems like you just want loud and don't care about looks, resonace or anything else. So the answers are:
Flowmaster - meaner sounding of these all but yet no too loud like the muff elim.
Muff elim - Loudest, cheapest, may lose too much backpressure. I like the feel of some back pressure.
MagnaFlows - who knows
Dynomax are not worth it. Better off removing your cats if you can.
Borla - these will cost you more due to being Stainless steel.
On a stock vehicle the performance difference between them all and also no muffs is almost none.

I guess youve never heard of anyone just putting the power capsules on.
If you're looking for something really loud you should look into those electronic dumps. I had a guy in a camaro with cutouts pull up next to me one time and it was extremely loud.
Check out this recent thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=537897 about cutouts and muffler elims. One guy on that thread (PrimierVette) said he is running cutouts on his vette and could probably give you some good imput I'm sure.

Sure have. Here's a quote from my previous post "even just getting the mufflers would be expensive compare to Dynomax, flow's." But how's that going the cheap route which is what he is looking for? Those capsules are expensive compare to other options. Oh well. :D
For the $ elims are the way to go. I had a local shop cut off my muffs and weld on some dual chrome tips. This cost me $90. Some people say you lose around 5TQ, but I haven't seen any dyno slips. The only resonance I get is when I'm cruising and my RPMS are 2400+.
