Default Headers for 95 LT1. ???

Sorry if this is one of those 'dead-horse' questions, but what are my options?
Would rather get long tubes but not sure how they would work with the rest of the exhaust. I have not had a good look at the undercarrige of my C4, but it doesn't seem like things are as simple as they used to be on the 5.7's.
Could someone give me a breakdown on the stock exhaust configuration. Am I to understand correctly: exhaust manifolds into coffe-can pre-cats, then a y-pipe with a cat, then a resonator, then the rear y-pipe into mufflers?
Whats available out there?
Thanks guys.

The 92-96's dont have that type of exhaust, it doesnt have y pipes its true duals. With 2 cats at the manifolds and a dual pipe resonator in the middle out to the back muffs.

The stock manifolds on your year go directly into each cat, and then into the resonator and out to each muffler, its a dual system with no y-pipes.

Only problem is that longtube headers on the LT engines dont hook up with the cats right, so some welding may be required.

You can go with Exotic Muscle, TPiS, LPE, or Hookers.

So, like most applications, are longtubes better than shorties? Or are there two different shoold of thought on this as it applies to C4's.
What type of gains are people seeing from the different headers?
Thanks guys for the exhaust layout description.

I recently witnessed a dyno test. Vince Ivanc Gained 15rwhp and 16rwtq after switching from shorties to longtubes!!! Do a search, it was only posted a couple weeks ago...

I just put some TPIS longtubes on my 95 over the winter and it made it run and sound much stronger! I wouldn't mess with the short tubes, not enough gain over stock to warrant the hassle unless you live in an area with strict emmisions testing like CA. There are many good brands of longtubes out there and I am not qualified to speak about anything but the TPIS C4 headers. That being said, quality, ease of installation, and performance gains were all pluses with TPIS. They do cost more than Hookers or Exotic Muscle, and you wouldn't get me to put Headmans on my car if you gave them to me. Make sure you get coated headers whichever brand you chose. Good luck. :chevy
