As you can see ~ I was not a happy camper with mine. The fit was terrible and the performance gains were questionable (although I never put it on the Dyno to measure the difference)
My $.02 worth is that this Mod has about the same relative value as the TB Airfoil ~ just 5 times more expensive.
Fit and finish on my first one left much to be desired. The plastic on the duct and the shroud (the Vortex shroud) warped due to heat/stress. I initially emailed Ernie and he wanted to charge me $100.00 for replacement pieces. :( After a person to person phone call with a Vortex rep, they sent me new pieces for free.
It appears that they had some quality control issues with the fabricator and since then, I haven't had any problems with it. I can't verify any actual performance gains, but I have to admit, it looks cool. :)
These air intake mods dont seem to produce results on the LT1 over a K&N filter, even the CLAW. The Claw isnt even a true cold-air setup, it gets air from the same place as the stock setup.
Epyon,
About the only advantage of going with an aftermarket setup on the LT1, is for looks. Again ~ in my opinion go for whatever you think looks the best and fits your budget.
If you look at the design of the Vortex Rammer you will see it is NOT a real ram air system. There are only 2 that I know of that are TRUE ram air systems. The SLP/TPIS one that goes in the direct air path under the nose and the Forced Air Induction System that goes through your front license plate. ALl the others just suck air in from the top of the radiator..
The Vortex Rammer only gets extra pressure that bounces back from the radator. It does not have a direct path of air into it. I looked at it and decided against it. FOr the past 3 years I've been HAPPILY using the SLP ram air system. Easy to setup, looks almost stock and works GREAT.
So Vader what would you recommend?
My other consideration is the ram air kit that goes through the license plate
On an LT1, I would recommend you save your money for another modification. None of them seem to be worth the money you pay. Cold-air setups are real Cold-air setups on L98s and do give gains, but on the 92 they dont seem to give anything.
