Re: 13'' rotor upgrade what is needed (American Muscle)
i thought their was an adapter kit so i use can my calipers. I was going to use Grand Sport rotors or any 95-96 rotors .
I believe you have to move up to different calipers...the 12"calipers are designed for 12"roters. Sort of makes sense if you think about it!
Even if your calipers and pads fit, you would only be using a portion of the roter and not getting the full benefit available...sort of like installing cheap, junk headlights.
Re: 13'' rotor upgrade what is needed (American Muscle)
I am told the calipers are different, but not sure.
You would need a bracket to space it out further (stock GM item), and rotors. Those are given.
As far as calipers and pads, not sure. Call your Chevy dealer and ask for the part number on both the 13" and 12" calipers to see if they are different. And call your local car parts store and ask if they show a different listing for 12" and 13" pads.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but using his stock calipers wouldn't really give him any advantage over what he's got now. ?????
Wouldn't you want to go ahead and get a bigger caliper, so that the pads are bigger, taking advantage of the bigger rotor?
Re: 13'' rotor upgrade what is needed (WhiskeyPapa)
He can't use stock 12" calipers with a 13" rotor as the caliper will not fit. The 12" mounting bracket for the caliper will not allow the 13" rotor to pass through it, so the caliper can't be installed. 13" rotor = caliper mounting brackets for a 13" rotor.

Ideally you would want a bigger caliper/pad, but GM used functionally the same calipers for 12" and 13". As the link I posted shows, it's just wider to accept a thicker 13" rotor.
Even if the rotors were the same thickness, the 13" rotor would be better since the caliper is further out, which means the caliper has more mechanical advantage acting on the rotor.
Re: 13'' rotor upgrade what is needed (American Muscle)
If you don't have the J55 option (RPO) then you have 12" front brakes. You can change to the 13" HD brakes fairly easily and it is definitely a worthwhile mod.
You will need new calipers (Grand Sports have "Corvette" stamped on the outside) and new rotors. Pads are the same for either. There is a pin(s) that holds the pads in ... be sure you get new (longer) pins since the 13" calipers/rotors are thicker. You will also need some crush washers since you will have to disconnect the brake lines. This is also a good time to do a complete flush of fluid. Run a search on the forum ... you should find plenty of info about these procedures.
Re: 13'' rotor upgrade what is needed (American Muscle)
I remember seeing two different kits in the Corvette Central catalog. One was a 13" front brake kit w/everything needed and the other was called the C5 brake kit or something-I assumed that meant stock C5 equipment.
