Default acceleration

I have ruby convertible LT1 1) does a car have better acceleration by using the automatic transmission, or if i shift manually and accelerate each gear up to 5500 rpm? 2) What is the difference in acceleration if I start with or without a traction control enabled? 3) Is there any kind of the governor that control the maximum rpm? If yes, when is it turned on? 4) What is the acceleration time of the LT1 automatic, up to 1/4 of a mile, or from 0 to 60 rpm? Same question for the manual transmission. Thanks for yours respond!

The automatic will shift faster by itself, put it in D and go.
If you want better times, turn the ASR off.
There is a fuel cutoff/rev limiter, but i dont know exactly where, probably ~6500.
An unmodded automatic would normally run in the mid/upper 13s, If you are a very good driver you can get it close to 13.0. The manual would normally run low/mid 13s.

Serious Question.... What does a good driver do as aposed to a bad driver to get the better time with the Automatic?? :steering: :auto:

Keep practicing until youre good, try to vary your launching techniques. The lower your 60', the lower your ET.

You might want to ask Mr Mojo about what exactly he does to get his that low.

Let me re-ask that.... I smoosh the gas when its time to go.... Are you too brake to an RPM before launch? Drop in gear at 2k RPM? Idle untill the light goes green? Honestly I would like to know how alot of you street &or track racers do it? :auto:

Here's the deal, depending on which automatic trans you have can make a difference.

The 4L60E is controlled by the PCM, you can adjust shift points, firmness etc.
In that case, kepping in in "D" would probably be best.

One thing for sure, kepping it in "D" will give you the most consistency.

The older trans (4L60 & 700R4) are not computer controlled, so it makes it harder to adjust shift points automatically.

Amazingly, shifting an automatic is no different than shifting a manual trans, you have to know when to shift.
If you shift too soon, you may not benefit from getting more speed, if you shift too late, you may over rev and slow down also.

So at the track, you are better off leaving it in "D" and stomping the go pedal.

Never do a neutral drop, you will toast the tranny very quickly(ask me how I know;) )

Depending on tires, track condition, tire pressure, tire compound, etc will determine the best way to launch.

On street tires, I launched off idle, no tire spin.

Now with the high stall TC and 3.45 gears, I have drag radials on and rev it to about 1200 and let off the brake and floor it on the third yellow.

This gives me a low .5xx reaction time and a 1.7 60'.

The governor is at 5800 in an LT1

Default Re: acceleration (Mr Mojo)

MrMojo is on the money here.

However I like to do a brake stand to within a few hundred RPM of TC stall before I launch. Then, depending on conditions, I hammer the accelerator (tight track) or roll into the throttle (loose track & street).

Doing a brake stand winds up the chassis and drive train to lower reaction time. You can use this to adjust your reaction time, along with other techniques, at the tree.

If your A4 is shifting way early have the WOT shift points adjusted for optimum trap speed and ET. If you bracket race it realy doesn't matter though, consistency is king here.
