Default New MODs made a big difference.

Well haven't posted in a few days Been busy at my Base Auto Hobby shop :flag It was great wel after all the posts about muff elims etc I got together with my new friend who works at the Hobby shop we unbolted the Ehaust system after the Pre Cats. Found the original rattling noise to be coming from a missing bolt on the pass. side pre cat mounting clamp Damn guys at the muffler shop didn't even bother to look after they fabricated my muff elims a few weeks ago after I asked them to look the exhaust over got the "oh yeah everything else looks good reply". Oh well I had figured the Main Cat was plugged and causing the rattle so I decided to gut it . After we found the clamp loose it was already up on the lift so I figured WTH lets do it anyway. We cut off the Main Cat/Resonator and replaced it with 2 1/2" pipe welded it all up and guess what one inch short :mad oh well day one over so on day two we stretched it out a bit rewelded and Really woke the beast up inside, Since I had free time left I changed my oil and added Lucas Oil Stabilizer and a new K&N oil filter, and installed Sylvania Silver Star headlights. To top it off I replaced the air filter & cut the lid, did the throttle body Bypass and removed the honey comb from infront of my Maf will removingbthat honey comb help or hurt anything? Well all in all I can feel the difference Pulls like a dream all together I can feel the difference. Any Idea if these simple Mods added any HP? I had put off the free mods but after seeing everyone had them on the forum I figured they couldn't hurt and boy was I surprized.
Thanks to all the CF members who helped with info. :seeya

Hope you don't have emissions requirements in your state. REmoving the cat is a federal offense punishable by a HUGE fine...That's why I still haev it.. Rule of thumb is around 20+HP from removing the stock cats.

I kept the two side Cats installed plus its Registered in FL no emission or Inspections but just in case the old cat/resonator is in storage :yesnod:  So 20 horses just for the main cat/resonator plus whatever the other free mods added  I love the sound now The birds leave the trees when she starts in the morning  :seeya

Somebody on here dyno'd their Vette after gutting the cat and got a whopping 3 extra horsepower. Not exactly worth breaking the law and risking a huge fine for 3 hp

Ok 3hp..If only three hp feels this good I can't wait till I really mod this thing. Honestly I drive the car 2-3 months a year when I'm not deployed overseas Protecting this Free Country and there are no emission tests required on this car so I'm not really worried about the tree huggers I've never seen A glass dome with an airfilter over any Race track. I only posted this to see what gains if any there was obviously there are some because I can feel the difference just wondering how much HP it may have been for the various small mods So if all u have to reply about is the legal aspects please keep them to yourself not meaning to offend anyone but I'm only interested in the performance aspects of it. What about all those beaters that someone just pays 50 bucks and passes with black clouds trailing their every move full of greenpeace stickers on the bumpers. Ok how bout this I promise to hug a tree everyday if you let me keep My Vette the way I like it    Just for Sh#ts and giggles I should go put it on a sniffer just to see what it registers
This post is not meant to offend anyone and is only one persons opinion

When I removed my cat, the only difference I
noticed was a louder car, but I guess a great filter a cut air lid and the
"removed maf screens" did it for you..!! :smash:

OMG does anyone READ any more First off I said this all started because I heard a rattle ..which turned out to be a power robbing fairly big exhaust leak I am sure fixing this helped the car run better the air filter was dirty and dried out needed to be changed routine maintenace since the car has sat for most of the past 2 years this will be the first summer that I'll be in the states.
the maf thing don't know if it helped hence the question in my original post. As for the exhaust no more leaks and I love the sound. The throttle body is definitely cooler after a drive maybe it helps maybe it doesn't but since I don't drive it in the freezing cold winter don't really need the extra hot air do I? Like I said didn't expect much from the simple mods but I have access to the perfect garage with lifts tools and general shop stuff I did the free mods with the extra free time while doing the needed maintenance. All in all IT DOES RUN BETTER maybe it was running sh#ty but since I haven't been driving it I didn't notice and now she's up to par . I got to spend time working on my baby , meeting new friends and in the end it runs stronger. Never once said it gained some 200 hp from the simple stuff but if I can notice the difference this made I can't wait until the bigger mods Gears etc... Naw going from 2:59's to 3:45's or 3:73's won't do anything either i guess. Even if it only gained 1hp I love the sound and I know she can breathe and fart better. Now if aLL THE CRITICS ARE DONE CAN ANYONE PLEASE ANSWER MY ORIGINAL ?'S    :seeya BTW the mod that made the most important change was the Silvers Stars which I just aligned today on one of those nice freestanding headlight alignment tools now i can see clearly at night since there are no street lamps out here . Let me guess they really didn't help either since their not true HID :lolg: :lolg: Still I can't wait to see if the alignment makes any difference too.

Love your mods, but the center thing you gutted is the resonator. A 95 has two main cats, right after the exhaust manifold, before the exhaust system comes together at the resonator. I bet you made some extra HP removing the resonator, it's the second biggest restriction after the mufflers. You made a poor man's catback, bet it sounds great. Oh, yea, if you still have the two cats, you're emission compliant.

Removing the honeycomb thing in the MAF can cause troubles, no HP there, hope you don't have any problems or check engine lights.

I'll agree. I think modifying the cat(s) makes a huge difference. Being the law-breaking rebel I am, I did mine too when i heard a rattle. The rattle turned out to be a CD case in the console. Ooops. Car runs incredibly well I didnt spring for 2 dyno runs to do a comparison but I'll take the sound and feel factor. BTW I do have a before and after sniffer results with practically no change. My suburban with the cat still on is horrible and barely passes she gets 10 mpg but it has a cat. :D

Thanks I was calling it the Cat/resonator because I heard from some it was a cat although it didn't look like any i've seen and others have said its only a resonator. I left the Cats alone thought it might be too load with those gutted, As for the maf honeycomb I didn't damage it taking it out so I will simply Re-install it in the morning since it might cause troubles.

Removing the resonator probably didnt help a whole lot, but the sound is decieving, what the eyes see, and the ears hear, the mind believes! All that matters is that you are happy and the car runs well.

The greatest gain is by removing(not gutting) the cats and resonators. I did this along with a nice catback, and headers......WOW what a difference. But LOUD!
