Default rotor off by 90deg.

I am in the process of installing my freshly rebuilt L98, When I drop my distributor in, it sits 90 deg. from pointing at # 1 cyl. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a LONG flat tip screwdriver (if you don't have a pre-oiler attachment for your drill) and reach down the distributor shaft hole and rotate the oil pump driveshaft by 90 degrees.

Bump the engine over with your finger in the #1 plug hole.
When you feel compression, continue and put damper on TDC.
Install Dist with the rotor pointing to #1 on the cap when fully seated.
You may have to turn the oil pump with a screwdriver to line up the dist shaft.
Hope this helps........... good luck...........

Thanks guys. I didn't realize that the oil pump drive could turn on it's own
