I'm thinking of installing a pulley kit and/or AIR pump eliminator on my '91. What are the pros and cons, expected gains, installation problems, best brand, etc..
Once I bought a pulley set for my 88 , it did gained a bit in performance, but I was expirienceing charging problems becouse all the power accecories that are bolted to the engine will turn slower including the alternator !! so I took every thing off !!! but my vote will go for the air pump eliminator kit , I think that should do you a nice gain !! someone for shure will chime in and tell`s you a bit different becouse some guys here have both -pulleys+air pump elimintor and they love em !!! some time soon I will buy the kit and see what the diffirence will make ...
I changed out my pulleys. I feel that the car revs quicker, although I also removed my frisbee at the same time. I don't know the pulley advantage on its own. I have no problems with the alternator.
I have the March Power & Amp pulley set and it works well.
I first had only the underdrive crank pulley and charging wasn't quite up to snuff. When the alt died I had the overdrive alt pulley installed and now charging is like stock.
I too believe it's worth a few ponies and the engine spins up quicker.
I've heard that the AIR pump eliminator frees up some HP but haven't tried it.
