Hey can anyone help me with this one-Just installed my new MSD 6A,in my 94 coupe auto, when i start the car the service ASR light comes on.When I bypass the MSD box & start the car the ASR light is off!It is a new box,I tried 2 different power sources[straight off the batt. was the rec. from MSD],double checked my wiring[i am using the MSD harness-its kinda a no brainer]What does the ASR have to do with ign.I only idled the car w ASR light on for 30 sec.on & off 6 times in hopes the light would go out,I did not drive the car this way,yet car runs fine w the box hooked up.thanks in advance for ANY help!! :nonod:
Re: HELP!! ASR light on with MSD 6A box!! (richy rich)
You'll also notice that if you rev it up the tach will go crazy when you pass about 3000 rpm's. What is happening is that the MSD box doesn't like the factory tach filter and you'll need to bypass it.
Follow the factory wiring harness back from the coil, one of the wires should be white. A few inches from the coil it should have a small black box taped into the harness with the white wire going into it on one side and exiting the other, that's the tach filter. Just cut the wire (leaving enough room to hook splice it back if needed) and splice around the box with the white wire and all your problems will be solved.
It's a very well documented problem but the forum search function isn't working properly.

Re: HELP!! ASR light on with MSD 6A box!! (richy rich)
Glad to help out. I honestly didn't see a black wire on mine but I wasn't looking for one either. It's probably just a ground or something anyway. All I know is that it works
