I've got a rattlin' cat that I'd like to get rid of, but not sure if I can do it the way I want. I'd like to cut the cats off, and replace the resonator with a "high-flow" cat. Does anyone know if the new cat will fit in place of the resonator or not?

Interesting thought, but won't that put more heat under your car. You might have to put up some heat shielding to protect your floor. If you decide to go with headers, especially long tubes, allot of guys have a way to put cats on the system. In short, I'd keep the stock system until you decide to modify. There're replacement cats that bolt right up to your system that are high flow.
Good luck
I'll surely have to put some extra shields up, but my main concern is wether the cat will fit in place of the resonator. I've looked into the replacement high flows that bolt up, and they're proud of those things ('bout $400 bucks each ), kinda outta my price range at the moment.
My cat's are rattling also. My plan is to jack up the rear end, remove the backs, and dig 'em out with a coat hanger. The only trick is that the motor has to be running when I dig.
I was thinkin' of doin' that myself, but we have emissions starting next month, so that option got thrown out there  . I'v just decided to go with the high flows (the local GM parts dealer wants 'bout $1600 for new cats  ), so i figured I'll just save up a li'l and redo the whole exhaust.
