B&B Exhaust Question
I am going to be buying the B&B Triflow for my C4. I have heard good and bad about the exhaust, and read the comments about loud resonance in the 1500-2000 rpm range. Here is my question:
I want the exhaust to rumble and to sound throaty when on the gas, but I also want to talk to my wife when cruising. Is there a setup for what I want? I am a little confused with the X-pipe, H Pipe, with/without resonator, etc.
I have read that most are going with an X-pipe. What is the good, the bad, and ugly with this?
Any comments would help. Thanks, and be safe,
Tim
I've got the resonator on mine. I've found it to be quieter overall than I thought it would be (but I'm comparing it to having had a B&B on my '95 Z28 before). However, yes, there is resonance between 1500-2000 rpm, and with the 6-speed, that's exactly where I am at about 70mph. If it's kind of coasting along, it's fine, but if I'm going up a hill, or maybe in fourth or fifth gear going about 35-40mph, it's pretty loud, but I have not found it to be unbearable at all. I admit, though, during those times of resonance, you might have to speak a little louder :yesnod:
I have considered getting the x-pipe; if I were ordering the system again, I'd get the x-pipe instead, but since I've already used the resonator, I'm sure I couldn't just swap it out for nothing, and I can't see dropping $400 more on just an x-pipe - way too much. One of these days if I have absolutely nothing else to do with that money, maybe.
Here's an mp3 from inside my car on an entrance ramp, then sort of cruising on the highway at about 70mph... (it's not the best sound quality, but it gives you an idea).

Hope this was of some help.
