Default 10 sec. 1/4

I have a 500hp engine build in the works. I will also be adding a direct port nos setup. A few days ago I was talking to my machine guy and he told me that with my internals and with racing gas, I should be able to handle a 300hp shot. I thought that was a little much, but what do I know.

My question is what needs to be done to get the car to hook on the track but still allow me to drive it on the street (no nos on the street of course!)

Can the rear be tubed? I know I'll need new drive/half shafts and forged ujoints, but how much torque can the Dana 44 handle? How much before the 4+3 is turned to soup?

If youre in the 10s, you might want to start thinking of the Dana 60 or a Ford 9". The 44 will be at its limits.

Default 10 sec. 1/4

new92racer has a lingenfelter 420 under the hood of his '90. it has(or had) a 700R4 with a d44 and the thing snapped the rear plenty of times(previous owner as well) a high torque motor(worse in your situation being a stick, hitting the tires harder) is not kind ot dana 44's.

a 9 inch or a dana 60 will take that all day...BUT it won't be a track only car will it?

First of all, I think 300hp nitrous system is gonna be a bit much on the engine, I think that in itself is gonna be trouble, but I can't be sure.

As for hooking the car. I am able to pull 1.534 60' times on 10" M/T slicks on just motor this is with a D44 and 3.07 gears.

If you hit the nitrous off the line the rear will probably not take it, You have to remember that what the nitrous does it it gives you X amount of HP, in your case 300hh, but it also gives you way, way more torque so you have really at risk. You better just run motor, then step it up a little at a time. To go 300hp out of the gate, you are just asking for trouble.

That is my take. I wish you luck.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I'm going to run a 300 shot. 300 was the # my machine guy gave me when I asked if the motor could handle a 150 shot. I'm planning to run 150-200. I've also been looking into a progressive controller to easy the "hit" of the nos. Definatly no going to run it off the line.

since I installed the stealth ram and nitrous Ive twisted off U-joints several times,
HELPFULL HINTS
200hp shot is about the limit on the stock u-joints

never hit the giggle gas unless your in second gear and moving at least 40mph and have the engine up to at least 3500rpm with street tires

RUN THE JETS ON THE RICH SIDE FOR FUEL/AIR MIX

BACK OFF about 2-3 degrees of ignition timeing for each 50 hp of giggle gas

never hit the button in the rain!

keep the bottle out of direct sunlight, use a safety switch,THINK BEFORE USEING!

You dont need a 300 shoot to hit 10's, 150 is enough

I wouldn't even consider using the nos on the street.

Also, I was going to tap the foggers into the Super rams runners. But after thinking about it, I'm going to put them in the lifter valley under the intake man. That way I can still take the valve covers off without removing the foggers. (its also pretty stealth, except for the 2 10lb bottles in the back!)

Grumpy,
Would I still need to do this running race gas? Like I said, no NOS on the street, unless I have the chance to spank a viper

"Would I still need to do this running race gas? Like I said, no NOS on the street?"

theres so many factors involved I can,t give you a reasonable answer other than youll need to start low and test, on my combo, I need to use a healthy dose of octain booster, but I know several guys that get away with 92 octain pump gas

heres some info, now take this anyway you want to but paying $5 for 16 oz of octane booster when you can make 160 0z useing TOULENE and a few other additives for about $9 is nuts, now don,t get me wrong Im sure not saying you should pour 3 gallons of toulene in your gas tank and go to the track and kick butt! what I am saying is that I use a touluene/mineral spirits/mystery oil/nitromethane mix as an octane booster in my vette (when I race at the track most of the time) and it prevents detonation by raiseing the pump fuels tendency to detonate under high loads. you must read, think, blend, mix,experiment,check,re-tune, experiment, then work up to the amount you find works in your enginethis allows you to get the most out of your existing high compressions engines performance, it does NOT provide you with extra hp like nitro or a nitrous/fuel system can http://www.vtr.org/maintain/gasoline-octane.html

RAY383,

Just like JD said & I sent him the pictures of mine:
If your car really works & you dead hook it with that much power + spray, your rears days are numbered.

Trust me, Dave :cuss
