Default 160 degree thermostat

What's a good source for purchasing a 160 Thermostat for a 95 LT1? Can't find anyone local who stocks them other than Autozone for $2.99 which doesn't sound too reliable. Also, what other parts are needed to install?

Thanks, John 95 LT1-6M

I run an AutoZone 160 deg stat in my '88 with no problems.

You will also need a fan switch to match or have the ECM or chip reprogrammed to bring the fan on earlier.

Wth a 95' you'll need to reprogram your car with a Hypertech power programer III for the lower thermostat to be the most affective other wise the fans come on at the same temps. The Autozone thermostat is fine to use.

I doubt if the Autozone $2.99 stat will work on your 95 LT1. I bought my 160* stat from Summitt Racing, for around $20.

LOL you cant just use a standard 160 thermostat on your car.. You have a reverse flow cooling system in your vett.. Hence you need to buy the proper thermostat. For 20 bucks you can get one from hypertech.. that is my suggestion also be prepared to get your eeprom reprogrammed to turn the fans on at 180 if you want to see a big advantage from this mod in stop and go traffic.. On the highway it will help without the fan mod but in traffic which is where i assume you are running the 220 plus temps you need the fan mod. Too bad you didn't live closer i could plug my laptop in and reprogram your fans in about 5 minutes. Check around the forum see if anyone in your area does any tuning.. It is a simple reprogram. If no one does just get a hypertech for the programming. Thats what i used to do till i got into the cats tuner programming. This mod makes a big power difference from your car being heat-soaked at around 220 plus to the new 180-195 range.
