Im about to replace my u-joint on the driveshaft on the dana44 side.
When I get the u-joint installed I got stiffness in the joint. There is stiff/binding movement in the u-joint.
Do you got anny procedure for seating the Joint in the caps, got the joints to move freely?
Or mayby I got wrong u.joints?
What is the partnumber for the drive shaft u-joint? THanks
how smooth should the u-joint be? Is a little stiffnes OK?
And can you explain "What I do is take something like a chisel with a very blunt end on it, and whack it with a hammer".
Whats a chisel? ( not to god at English ).
It should hopefully work, just make sure you tap it on a meaty part of the joint. When you press the caps in the bearings all get loaded up against one end causing extra friction. Knocking it back a tiny amount frees them up.
I just went and picked up my U-joints that I had ordered. They look a whole lot like the ones in your pics. Mine are Brute Force from Auto-Zone. A local Vette racer told me they were the ones to get. Do I have the wrong parts or what?

Those are the ones in the pics. They are the "right" parts, but they are much weaker than the factory Spicer ones. If you do any drag racing you may want to reconsider using those. Otherwise you should hopefully be ok.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Take them back!!!!!! They are garbage. They will work if all you do is street driving, but do not even think about going to the drag strip (even with just street tires).
I got around 5 passes at the Bowling Green track before snapping one of mine, and that track if far from being well prepped.
When I redid the rear suspension in the '87 (and '70 also) I used a really big U clamp to get the caps to seat and click in. It just seemed a little more controlled than hammering on it. ~Juliet
