Is there a good how-to for stripping the paint. I am going to get my door repainted and want to save some money. What is the best way to go about this?
That's a very good post you found. You can also do a search on Barnes & Noble.com for fiberglass repair. Eklers has a couple good How-to videos on fiberglass work.
Good luck with your project, keep us up to date on your progress.
I would NOT use a chemical stripper on a C4. I stripped my car down and ended up sanding it 99%. The C4 has a baked on factory finish the strippers will attack then dry back onto to the car making it nearly impossible to get the paint off.Plus, the C4 doesnt have a gel coat finish the older cars had.
Ive tested some chemical strippers on certain areas and was not pleased with the results.Wet sanding the paint is probably the faster way to go and no chemical messes to deal with.I used a long sanding board and various grits of paper on it to wet sand the doors and it cut through the old paint fairly fast.
Another fast way is to have the door media blasted by somebody. Its messy if they get the media everywhere but proper maskoff and covering of the car will get the paint off everywhere without the high and low spots sanding can do.
