Default 1987 rebuilt AC Compressor

I need to replace my AC Compressor. I have purchased rebuilt items in the past with no problems, but never an AC unit. Are rebuilt AC/Delco units realiable?

Second : after I install the unit can I drive the car to the local deaqler to have the system charged without using the proper oil ?

Tim Wargo

Personally, I wouldn't buy ANOTHER rebuilt A/C compressor again. Been there, done that. I just replaced the rebuilt compressor with a brand new one. I should have done that in the first place. You get what you pay for :yesnod:

AC Delco has a pretty good reputation; just make sure it's the genuine thing and you can visit http://www.acdelco com for more info. An '87 uses the Harrison R4 which is not that expensive new. The Last Detail has the best compressor prices I've seen so far - http://www.tld-corvette.com Stay away from the Discount Auto Stores. They generally deal in the Factory Air brand which has a terrible reputation. Note, on some rebuilts and new, the manufacturer may demand proof that the system was flushed and a new accumulator installed before honoring any warranty claim, so be sure to read the fine print. regardless of what you get.

Thanks for the info. Can I drive the car to the dealer to have the system charged. Or should it be towed.
