Ok, sorry for so many questions on the Dana 36 rear end's but I want to make sure I get the correct rear end. I hear people saying that a 3:73 would put the car at to high of an RPM on the hiway at 60. Would a 3:54 be better on hiway? what RPM would it typically be? How muc top end would I lose? how mcuh better out of the hole would a 3:73 be VRS. 3:54? Thanks for your patients guys and for the replys.
1992 LT1 Corvette
I just put in 3.54s........ at 2600 rpms I'm around 70mph in OD...you probablly have higher rpms with 3.73s But let me tell you thats the best mod IMO hands down!!!!!!! the car will come alive!!!!! :auto:

:iagree: can't wait to swap from 3.07 to the 3.45 dana44 soon.. Should let the car get in the power band and stay there waaay quicker..
Try driving your car in drive (direct) at high speeds. Experience different cruise rpms, so you'll know how they feel, and how YOU feel about them. Analize your driving habits and your tolerence for different cruize rpms. Do some math. What one guy (me, maybe) loves, you may hate. Good luck, and...

:iagree: try launching and driving those 3.07s in "D" you'll might have all the gear you want...IMO 3.07s is the best gear for HWY driving....but for "A" kicking acceleration you GOTTA get 3.54s or 3.73 for an A4..
Is your rear end quiet or does it make noise after installing aftermaket gears as Richmond Gears says it will?
I put in aftermarket 3.54's, they make no sound. Richmonds suppossedly make alot of noise, thats why I stayed away from them. I just got some US gears. They work great
I have 3:73's in my Dana 36...all that's been said is true...I cruise at 70 mph around 2500 rpm..no biggie...took an 1800 mile road trip last year and am heading to Cruise In IV in 3 weeks, about 1500 miles round trip...here's the bottom line..if you just want to perk things up a bit go with 3:54's...if you enjoy drag racing at all or want some serious snap go with 3:73's and a Transgo shift kit like me...the highway part is not an issue... good luck.. :D
