I saw ski_dwn_it topic about the underdrive pulleys and wanted to ask you corvette people a question , I didn`t want to make this question in the other post because I don`t want to hi jack his post , so here goes !!
Once I bought a set of the 2 pulley set and when I installed them on my vette I had charging problems , so I took everything off !!! I did notice a gain but it wasn`t worth the trouble they were giving me about charging !!! the crank pulley was smaller but the alternator pulley was bigger , I was thinking that if you want to make an altenator turn faster you need a smaller pulley ??? ,if I find a cure for the charging problems I will put them back in , so my question is , If I change only the crank pulley do I still have charging problems ??
wich pulley makes the alternator turn faster the small one (stock) or the big one that came with the kit ???
these pulleys are disigned that way to create more horsepower!!!!!! the crank pulley is smaller so that it will turn faster than the stock pulley....... thus in theory generating more power since it revolvs more times per second or minute versus the stock pulley! the altenator pulley is bigger than the stock pulley so that it will turn slower !!!!! in turning slower you are not using as much power to run the electrical system ...... so in theory that relates to more rear whell horse power!! you should notice that there is a draw on the altenator at an idle but under higher rpm you should have no problems!!!!! :steering:
Yes. Mine is aa ~ 40% reduction crank only. I do not charge well at idle, but who idles for long. Ive had mine on for about 7 years now and would not even think of taking it off. Never had a problem.
I have a six speed, so if necessary I can rise the rpm slightly. Do you drive an automatic? if you do you may need to play with the alternator pully size to be perfectly content.
