Use a paper clip to jump terminals A+B of the ALDL link (upper right top row) and turn the ignition on but don't start the car. Your check engine light will flash 1.2,1.2,1.2, then flash the trouble codes stored followed by 1.2,1.2,1.2. Post these codes and we can tell you what they mean.

It flashes Morse code style...not numbers...

One flash, pause, 2 flashes, pause = code 12

Okay I tried it out, the first 3 were exactly what you guys said and what the manual said, Flash, pause, thne two flashes.

After that happened 3 times their was another 4 quick flashes, no pauses inbetween, I think this happen 6 times, 1 set of 3? Anyway what does this mean? 4 flashes?

Sounds like you got a code 44. This means oxygen sensor lean. Could be a bad sensor, fuel pump problem, clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel injectors.

Hmm, I changed the Fuel Filter recently, but the check engine light came on before I changed that out to, I plan on changing the O2 sensors tomorrow and see if it still checks out.

BUt how do you tell what codes it pulls? Say if their is a 5 flash, what would that be? A 55? How do you tell from pauses and flashes? Thanks for your help :yesnod:

I'm a huge supporter of the "paperclip" method myself.

Anyways, regarding the "pause" between the "flashes": lets just go with your "five" flashes. It will flash, short pause (bout one second), flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash. Then a little bit longer pause (bout two seconds). Then flash, short pause (bout one second), flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash, short pause, flash. Now there will be a long pause (bout 5 seconds). This will tell you that is the end of this code. Hence code 55.

If there is more codes, they will come up the same way.

Hope this helps ya out a little bud. :)

Thanks for the help,

So if I got this right, say a 3flash occurs with a 4 sec pause after the code it done, then does that mean its a 34?

No. The lentgh of the pause is not used as a "code number". If you get three flashes and then a 4 second pause, I would say that the four second pause is the pause that occurs to seperate the codes. The three flases shouldn't happen all at once. There might be one of those "two second" flashes in between somewhere.

Then it would turn out to be a flash-pause-flash-flash = 12, or a flash-flash-pause flash = 21.

Lemme type up a little diagram for you really quick:

Flash-pause-flash-flash = 12
Flash-pause-flash-flash-flash = 13

Flash-flash-pause-flash = 21
Flash-flash-pause-flash-flash = 22
Flash-flash-pause-flash-flash-flash = 23

Flash-flash-flash-pause-flash = 31
Flash-flash-flash-pause-flash-flash = 32
Flash-flash-flash-pause-flash-flash-flash = 33

I hope that I was able to make this a little easier for you to understand. I know that when I first started to read my codes, I had tons of trouble, but the people here helped me out drastically.

Also, I noticed in your signature, you live in Union City. I live about an hour away. If you want, I can meet you somewhere Friday evening or on Saturday to help ya out.
