Totally rediculous!
Went out to the dealership to change the shifter cable I waited 3 days to come in. I took the old one out and noticed right away the new one was much smaller in diameter and look more frail, but I went ahead and installed it anyways. Got everything buttoned up on the inside of the car (the worst part of the whole job) and then I come to find out the freakin cable will not travel enough to engage 1st gear, at first I thought i just needed to move the point at which it connects to the tranny lever, as there is some adjustment there. Upon further investigation, I realized it was either 1st or Park......
I just can't stand that it seems you can't buy anything anymore and have it quality and work right the first time. Upon further inspection of the cable it said made in Tiawan :mad If the guy that sold that to me was infront of me at the time I would have :boxing him. Its rediculous. An entire night wasted for a cable made in Tiawan :banghead:
Can you tell I am POed?

I think your car aggravations have worn off onto me. After my initial start up of engine - exhaust got so dang hot it cooked my speed sensor. The sensor has been discontinued as of January 2003 but Chris (Jeff Kopps replacement) had some in stock. Thank goodness Jeff new they were discontinuing it and kept a few in stock.
In addition the O/D pan will not seal up on tranny. I even used the right stuff and the synthetic ATF is seeping out. At least you got a few runs in to keep you motivated :yesnod: .

I don't think he cared for my comment, but more people need to speak up. Afterward he asked me what I meant. I told him I think its rediculous the the way corporate mentality is that they think that they are gonna save major bucks going elsewhere, till the plane tickets (sending skill from the US to sort out their problems), shipping, taxes, etc kick in. Doesn't take much to dwindle the saving away. I just think there are better ways that we have not taken the time to investigate. Afterwards, he just stood there looking at me, I figured the next thing he was gonna do was introduce me to the door. Instead, he wispered so the rest of the people in the room wouldn't hear me, I wish more people spoke their mind like you. This country would be much better off. He then poured me my coffee and patted me on the back :flag
It made me more mad tonight, not that the cable was the wrong length, but rather it was mde in Tiawan.....What a frikkin joke.
:mad :mad
Good luck with everything :)

However, I do find the stereo-typing kind of disturbing. It's the same type of bias stereotyping that makes some people think all Corvette owners are conceded and/or are trying to make up for lacking a bigger 'tool'. I do not believe you meant any harm in your comments, but simply spoke out of frustration, but they were a negative stereotype none the less.
Long Rant. No need to read if you bore easily.
I'm sure I will catch some flak from some people with what I am about to say, but it's just another perspective.
I would like to present this argument from another perspective, only because it was 'where' the part came from that truly bothered you. I don't believe the blame regarding the export of labor is placed in the right place. It is the not the foreign workers that decides who's business they get. The foreign countries do not control the decisions of corporate America. Sure they offer EXTREMELY low labor rates. Yes these lower rates makes it VERY difficult for domestic laborers to compete (dollar for dollar). however, it is the CEOs, the boards, the directors that makes the decision on where the labor will be resourced.
Admittedly, quality does often take a hit. Quality often HAS to take a hit when the ultimate goal is the bottom line $$$$. These business practices are a direct result of a capitalistic society. If consumers like you and I are not always looking for the bargin price, companies 'may' not have to make these decisions. But because we have the right to value our hard earned dollar, we often end up screwing ourselves in the process.
The foreign laborers are only doing what you and I would do. They are making themselves competitive. They are marketing themselves in the most effective manner they know how. They market to the thing that speaks the loudest in a competitive world... Money. It is unfair to place blame on the ordinary people. For that matter, it is unfair to place blame anywhere.
For the most part, you get what you pay for. Take Honda and Kia for example. Hondas are known for being one of the most reliable cars on the road. It is made by foreigners, but so is a Kia. Why is it that Kia doesnt have the same reputation? You get what you pay for.
I completely understand your frustration about the often lower standard of quality when work is outsourced. I face it daily where I work. We outsource to save costs. Is it the best thing for the customers? I cant answer that. But I can say that the customers will not pay 7-10X more for the product to be produced domestically.
Im not ******* on you about anything. I look forward to your posts so I can learn more about our hobby and I will continue to. Im just don't agree with where the frustration was placed about getting a substandard part. Honestly, I dont think anyone's to blame. We're all just trying to get the most we can for the least amount possible.
I really hope you do get the right part so we can read about how scary your car is. Good luck with getting her back on the road.
PS. Im not a liberal nor will I ever be. I just believe in being as fair as possible across the board. Sorry about the long post.
You exactly correct, I am not bias or racist, just a frustrated person :D
I understand exactly what you are saying, and don't want to turn the tech section into an off topic, but I think we can slide a comment or two past Frank(mojo) with the intentions that its tech/quality related :jester
Here is my take, in my job I have to cut costs daily, cut jobs some days, and it as a whole wears on you. Looking at the whole picture, you have to do it nowdays to compete and your right, all people care about is price, very unfortunate. I for one am exactly the oppose, I would pick the more expensice of two of the same items, figuring the more expensive is better, not always the case, but the way I operate. Maybe that is why I don't have two vettes instead of one.
Anyways, when I was with GE we had tons of companies in about every crevis you can imagine around the world. The reason for 1/2 of the savings realized was not labor (typically ~20%) but rather the costs associated with enviromental, safety, and other regulations the US gov keeps handing us. Like the ergonomic plan our buddy clinton  was trying to pass, it all has to go somewhere and the consumer is the one that eats it in the end. Whereas with these other countries, many of them don't care what you pay the people, safety plans, or even enviromental regs you enforce. IMHO, that is where I don't agree nor do I endorse the out of country parts. As you said its nothing against the workers themselves, if someone was paying me 2 dollars an hour, I wouldn't care if that cable was an inch short either.
OK back to tech.....
Gotta get a new cable ordered from the chevy dealer. Thanks for the comments.

You have stated the facts correctly, and ~ whether or not you are a CEO or a blue collar worker, the facts remain.
Beyond the quality issues ~ when there is a noticeable difference between the replacement part vs. the OEM original, it is always wise to stop and compare. Additionally, if the repair can be tested prior to buttoning up ~ you should do it.

Hope you were not offended by my comments. Just thought it needed to be said. I think we are on the same page. I agree it sucks to get a defective part regardless where it comes from. Good luck and hope you get it fixed soon.
Strick-
No, but I do understand business economics and regardless of where our heart is, the fact remains the same. Just because something isnt right, doesnt mean there is always a guilty party. The greatest part about this country is I have the right to voice my opinions and you have the right to disagree.
