I can't remember if I posted this or not. I pulled a piston out of the original L98 block from my car two weeks ago to replace the one I had pulled out of the engine that was destroyed. Well, we quickly found out that the pistons in the vette were much LIGHTER than the ones in the car now. :( So... that wouldn't work.
Some investigation with the help of Jeff Kopp came up with a superceeded part # for the piston because the one stamped inside the piston was no longer valid. I ordered the piston from gmpartsdirect on the 20th and it finally arrived today. I can't believe I spent $70 on a single freaking cast piston.
Anyways.... it looks to be a nearly identical match. There are a few verrrry slight casting differences, but the weights on it are moved around to compensate it looks like. I'm going to weigh them tomorrow and as long as they're within a few grams of each other I'll swap the rings over to the new piston and I'll be ready to slap it into the engine and start bolting crap together again.
:hurray:
The car has been down since November. :( It figures after 3 super weak winters that THIS was the year winter just would NOT end and I couldn't get outside to work on it.
Here's to hoping I can get the thing running and tuned FINALLY after all this time and disaster after disaster. I wanna see at least 328 at the wheels N/A. Its only 6 away from that now so I think its more than doable with the nasty fuel curve I had before. Once she's squared away (crosses fingers bigtime) we'll see if we can work some magic and maybe finally pull a few 420 rwhp nitrous pulls. Hell if it still blows up after 2 of those I'll be happy.
I'm just hoping that after all the troubles last year (2 trannies, 1.5 engines, 2 ECMs, and other misc) that this year will sort it all out and finally give me some returns for once. :blueangel:
I'm still determined to get this damned 350 4+3 into the very low 12s with this combo N/A. I know it can do it.

I thought you were spraying that motor?
I am.
I just want the car back on the road at this point. I also didn't want to dump $600 into forged pistons right now when I know I'll just be building a big cube engine within a year or so that will need new pistons.
These ones should be able to take a 100 shot easy and I might play with 125 on a few track occassions if the competition dictates it. I'm going to through the 150 jets away before I get greedy though. :)

Good luck! Hope it all works out and it gets you through the summer. I think your safe. Schleprock is back with me again, as usual
I went home last night and told my wife I had to be one bad **** in a different life, or someone put a bad luck curse on me.... she said, yeah but you have me! I replied, Yeah my point exactly:D
Aw, that's great news, bet that sucker will be back on the road in no time now. How does it feel with a light at the end of the tunnel? I mean a light that isn't coming from the locomotive at the other end that is!!
