Default Ten spark plug wires?

Just completed the passenger side, new Taylor Spiro wires. There are ten wires in the kit not eight. What the heck are the other two wires for? Its hard to tell if they go on the optispark in that I've never actually seen it. I just kind of reach down and feel around for the thing. I want to complete the job this weekend. Please help. Thanks as usual.

Most sets for the vette include two coil wires. The 96 LT1 coil was different, so rather than market a different set specifically for that one year they just include both coil wires and sell one set for all LT1's.

Here's my guess, The #6 and #8 wires have two types of plug end terminals, 90 degree and straights. Some LT-1s can use the 90 degree boot and some can't. With headers I can use the 90 degree boots on #6 and #8 with no problem. I have MSD wires and they came with straight boots for #6 and #8. Does this help?

As far as inserting the opti side of the wires, how did you get to it with the water pump on? I just replaced my opti and putting the wires on was a breeze with the pump off. One thing about the opti-spark, make sure you get the plug wire terminal to snap in place. There is a pin inside the recepticle of the cap that the terminal snaps onto. Got a mirror to see the opti with?

The passenger side is easy, you can actually see it and reach them all from the top. The driver's side you have to come at from the bottom and just feel for it.

A sure fire way is to remove the idler pulley assembly .........its one bolt and you can see the wires just like the passenger side right from the side. FWI.....

The extra wires are for the coil. Thanks Nathan.

Sounds like a technique I used to practice when out on dates back in the good old days :jester: :lolg:

What do you mean about "get the plug wire terminal to snap in place"?

THx Lani
As you push the plug wire into the opti-spark, you'll feel a snap or a click as the wire slides into place. It is possible to bend that pin inside the opti recepticle and have the terminal sit on the side of the pin instead of around it. Make any sence?

Pretty much, thanks. Is this a difficult process or just need to careful? Also what happens if they don't get snapped in right or the pin bent, will one know?

thanks again. Lani
Just make sure the plug terminal boot is straight in-line to the opti receptacle as you slowly push it on, and it will snap on just fine. Take a q-tip and spread a thin coat of dielectric grease on the inside of the plug terminal boot to help it slide on easier.

That's the key, be careful and FEEL for the good insertion. How would you know if it is not a good connection? There might be a leakage or a spark jump, you might feel a slight miss. After a few thousand miles, if you looked at the bad connection there might be evidence of arcing or burn spots at the terminal. After rereading this, I don't mean to scare the heck out of you and it is rare that this would happen. I looked real hard at my old opti and noticed the pin inside one the recepticles was bent to the side and I wondered about the possibility. I went to the plug wire that came out of it and there was a blackened spot on the side of the terminal clip that attaches to the pin. My conclusion was that there wasn't a good connection there. If she's running good, don't worry about it, it's okay.
