Looking at the manifold on the LEFT, you'll notice three brass things sticking out of the end of the manifold. The one on the far LEFT is a coolant temp sensor. The one on the TOP is a coolant hose attatchment I think, but what is the lower one? and does anyone know the part number? I went to autozone and they didn't have a clue.... It's supposed to be a "cold start sensor" but I can't find reference to any such thing!
That's right. It's a Thermo-Time Switch for the Cold Start Injector used on the '85-'88 L98. On my '86 that switch is in the hole on the left in the picture and the Coolant Temp Sensor is under the nipple. They're all screwed into coolant passages, so it doesn't matter, but that's where they were from the factory on an '86. Parts book will call it a SWITCH, COLD START F/INJ part number 14084318. It isn't cheap. Chris, the replacement for Jeff Kopp at Superior may be able to get it for you for less than $40. The hose goes to the Throttle Body, unless you've done the bypass.
Yes, the bypass would be a hose from that port to the lower heater outlet. A piece of 5/8" hose with a 90 degree bend at the manifold end is ideal. I would never piece rubber hoses together because that's just one more place for potential leaks and hoses are cheap.

This is excellant advise and is the way I've done it on other's cars. Most folks take the let's just connect these two together route, but you're absolutely right.
