hey guys i am planning on changing the pads on the front brakes of my 96 LT4 tomorrow as they are sqeaking and whinning pretty bad. i plan on having the rotors turned as well. does anybody know of any write-ups on this process? i am having a friend help me that used to work at an import garage but just thought it would be nice if i had a set of vett specific instructions.... TIA!
If your friend has done brake jobs before, this is a gravy shot. The fronts are alot easier than the rear.Just make sure that if you have the rotors turned, they are still within factory thickness specs. The shop that turns them should have the specs. You might get lucky and all that noise is from the "wear indicator" ie: a peice of spring steel that makes gawd awfull noise before the pads are totally gone.GOOD LUCK! :flag

It's a piece of cake. Just undo the two mounting bolts and pull off the whole assembly. Then pop off the C clip from the locking pin and push it out. Install the pads. Make sure you have them going the right way, otherwise it won't fit in the bracket.
Throw the rotors away. First, most places cut them so they are like a parallelogram. Secondly, even if within min thick spec, they will very likely warp at the first sign of getting hot. It's not worth compromising the braking system on a Corvette.
I just pop off the clip, push the pin out and pull the caliper off, no need to unbolt the bracket.
Just be sure to take the cap off your master cylinder so when you compress the pistons in the caliper, you don't "pop" the cap. Also just watch yourself as you compress the pistons, don't want brake fluid shooting out everywhere.
