Im considering using some new style heads that dont have the ports for the egr, what has to be done to the system to delete it. What im getting at is if the only thing I do is just bolt the intake back on and hook every thing back up the way it was ,will the computer throw a code ?
Im sorry I didnt explain very well it is an 85' so the egr is a internal part of the intake fed through the heat riser port in the head. I noticed that there is a sensor near the egr valve.
I'd go for the Edelbrock Aluminum heads......proven to get the best HP....increase.....and a good price.....
So what are you going to do???????????? Let us know....OK?????
thanks

I blocked off my EGR, capping all associated vacuum lines and leaving all electrical connections attached. Doing this makes the computer think everything is working correctly (the EGR solenoid still trips, but there are no vacuum lines connected to it and the EGR is blocked so it doesn't flow any air, but the computer thinks it is. ECM's are dumber than you think they are. You let it think the EGR is attached and working when the important air connections are disconnected and it has no way of knowing that no EGR is getting into the manifold.
What you'll want to do is make a block-off plate for the port in the intake manifold where the tube connecting the exhaust manifold and intake manifold goes, disconnect the vacuum line going from the EGR solenoid (under the TB) to the EGR valve, and re-route the vacuum line which goes from the vacuum canister to the EGR solenoid to the port on the bottom of the TB. Leave the electrical plug going into the EGR solenoid in place, and the ECM won't trip codes but your EGR is now completely disconnected.
I decided to go with the Pro topline cast iron heads they have egr ports so they will work. Just curious but If you disconnect the egr valve vac line it should not open, so blocking off the ports has no benifit other than weight.
