MAFy thanks!
I knew I had some kind of trouble with my 89 corvette convertible, and knew it was related to the MAF sensor. Connected the engine died as soon as it fired up. Disconnected the car ran rough enough to get me home one day from the grocery store. I ordered the multitester kit from Mid America, which was a mistake.
Thanks to the forum members help (they recommended replacing the MAF relays) I was able, for $27.00, to get my ride back on the road.
I still have a ton of work to do, but she is now drivable. The shop tells me the only things they see that needs repairing are:
1. Filter adapter seal
2. One cooler hose (not sure if engine or tranny)
3. Tranny service (fluid/filter change)
4. Speed sensor at tail shaft (leaking tranny fluid)
5. Oil drain plug
I also know I need a new fly wheel and possibly a new starter. Every now and then when I go to start it I'll hear a whirring sound and grinding. If I rotate the engine via the serpentine belt the car will start fine. The X frame also is bent.
All of this because of a very tall speed bump! :mad
Thanks again for everyone's help!
Bill
