It sounds like the rack wasn't "centered" before a former front-end alignment. If the wheel is turned either to the left or right when the toe is adjusted, you can end up with more travel on one side and less on the other.
The only way to fix is to have it aligned and make sure that equal amounts of travel are on both ends before the toe is adjusted.

:iagree: If it's off by a significant amount then someone may have installed the ragjoint and coupler 180 degrees off. Most likely it just wasn't centered before aligning.
