Just hit 22,000 miles on my 94 Lt1 since my last auto trans service, and this time I am looking at the PowerFlush auto trans service - where ALL of the old fluid is sucked out and replaced with new. I have always went the drop the pan/change the filter/add fluid road before and never had any problems. Anyone experience any problems or issues with having the complete flush/replacement done?
I'm not sure what all the service offered by Power Flush. I had a service offered by a chain called Oil Can Henry.
A hose was connected to the trans line on the radiator side and it was pumped through. The challange is that the filter isn't changed in the process and the fluid in the converter is missed.
I have had no problems with their service(I changed the filter myself).
What's all included in their service?
It sounds like the same service you signed up for. They told me a connection would be made at the radiator, the old fluid sucked out and replaced with new. BUT, this shop told me that the fluid in the convertor is replaced and that is the advantage of the flush. My concerns were having a flush dislodge a piece of crud and then stop up a valve or something.
I would reccomend the trans flush.. but here are some notes.. at aprox 40K miles the detergent in the trans fluid breaks down.. the particals of friction material and metal ect are now no longer suspended in the fluid... they then settle around the seals.. and basically to simplifiy my explanation it is using the particals to help seal.. well when you flush the trans the particals are now picked up and the seals start to leak and then you have less apply pressure to hold the band and clutches.. which causes trans failure.. so my reccomendation is as follows..
do a trans flush and alternate every 20K between trans flush and a pan off job where the filter is replaced.. this makes shure the filter is not clogged..
if the car has alot of miles on it or is quite a few years old then you may not want to do a flush.. you may want to just do a pan off service..
