I got a low coolant light the other day so I added some. But I noticed the coolant was really foamy. So I took the cap off and let the engine warm as I have done in the past to top it off. It's always hit the thermo temp and when it opens the coolant will flow right, then if it's low I will add until topped off then rev it some to make sure it's good and topped off. Well it didn't work this time. WIth the cap off it is really foamy, like it has soap in it. THe temp got up to operating temp the thermo opened but it's not dropping down like it should or has in the past 7 years I've had it. Then I rev it up and the fluid will drop out of sight I add until full then place the cap back on but it's not enough the low coolant light will still come on. So what is causeing this foaming, and why is it not dropping in level once the thermo opens.? :banghead:
Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Is it turning a dirty color...kind of brownish? Also, have you determined that you do not have any leaks in any of your hoses? If so, I'd bet money that you have a blown head gasket.
Re: coolant issues never seen this (CorvetteZ51Racer)
that's what I was a fraid of. and I just put the superram on great. Yeah it has a bit of a brown tint. THe exhaust didn't smell sweet but that doesn't mena it's not the head gasket. It doesn't over heat so I've been lucky there. I guess I should stop driving it. I can pull the plugs and tell right?
You should to do a leakdown test. It pressurized the cylinders then measures the loss of pressure, also you might see bubbles in the coolant expansion tank.
I think I can skip all that testing. What do you guys think. I found a wet spot around the rear plug number 7. It's rusty and wet. So I'm guess it's been leaking and finally gave way. but it's not enough yet to hurt the inside chamber.
