Anybody doing this? I purchased a dana 44 conversion with a 4.09 installed. Just wondering if anyone is doing this and also were you able to get your speedo. accurate.
I think it really depends on your engine....I personally think that is WAY WAY to steep for a 700r4 tranny. That will put your ratio at 12.45! That is STEEP. If you plan on burning up the tires its great, but I think hookin is gonna be a MAJOR problem.
The rule of thumb is a really powerful engine only needs ~9.00 gear ratio, where a weak low power engine can benefit from a steep gear ~12.00 gear ratio.
We are able to run 3.07 gears and get awesome 60' times and good ETs as well. I think the biggest mistake guys make is going to steep with gears. It makes power band shorter/quicker and makes hookin tough.
Not to mention elevated cruise rpms. This may or may not be of concern to you. 4.09:1 is too low for MY tastes but it may work great in your circumstances. Good luck, and...
I've got 4.30's in mine. :yesnod: You can change the transmission gears for the speedo, or you can buy one of the electronic converters for around $150.
Well, thanks to everyone for answering. Actually I wanted a 3.73, but I got a good deal on this one. And it is supposed to have a hardened pin from toms differential installed as well. I have not had any problems with the dana 36, which is currently in the vette, but I want to try drag radials and a line lock. My luck it would break first time.
