Default Another Opti question - vent line routing

I have been replacing the opti and front seals in my 92 LT1 and I think I am down to the last question. What is the routing on the vent / vacuum harness?

Does the harness go down the front of the engine between the alternator and water pump? Seems very tight. Did the new cars with vented optis have a different arrangement of engine assessories to make routing the vent harness easier? Thanks in advance.

BTW - If you are modifying a non-vented opti with glued on vent fittings, be sure to check the clearance between the opti and crank hub - it is close. I think that the pictures in the Corvette Fever article are misleading - if the fittings stick out as far as show in the pictures, they will hit the hub.

IIRC yes, the vent lines run down the front of the motor in between the power steering pump (which is directly underneath the alternator,) and the water pump housing, and over top the accessory drive belt tensioner.

:iagree:

And, yes it is very tight but it does fit. It does slightly block the water pump bolt behind the PS pump.

Anyone have any pic's they can post would be really helpful. I am just doing MY93, the only thing is the vacuum harness I bought from the local dealer did not come with any clips to tie it out of the way of the belt.

Thanks for the information. I think that I am back on track now.

The hose harness that I got (p/n from the Corvette Fever article) had the big plastic tube around both hoses on the lower section. I can't get this fat part to fit between the idler bracket and the water pump. :smash:

However if a remove a piece of the protector about 3" long in the tight spot, I can fit it in nicely. So, I am doing a slight mod to the harness assembly - the hose seems too long on the top side too?

The only area that seems tight now is around the throttle valve linkage. Should there be a clip to hold the harness away from these moving parts  Brings back memories of my youth :reddevil :and a stuck WOT - power shifted through all 4 gears before I figured out the throttle was stuck

Yikes! sounds like fun. Reminds me of a '64 sedan de'ville I had that broke a motor mount. The engine torque pulled the throttle linkage tight and she just kept feeding herself!

I have a clip that holds my intake line to the accessory brackets, right next to the alternator. The vacuum line runs up underneath the throttle body to its source, so it doesn't get in the way of anything.
