I've got an Optima Red Top in my car, seems to work just fine. I've run it down to the point that it won't start the car twice, my fault though. It charged right back up no problems both times and is still running strong. Of course I've only had it a little over a year so I can't speak for their lifespan.
I have the Optima Red-Top in my C4 and have ran them in 3 other muscle cars. They are worth the money. If you have a lot of electronics or a hot aftermarket ignition, then you should consider the Yellow-Top series. One 5.0 we owned had an aftermarket alarm and the Red-Top had trouble with the alarm activation/deactivation. The Red-Tops have nice deep cycle but I belive the Yellows are a little hotter.

Is there any trouble with the factory alarm? In the Summit Catalog, the yellow top only has 650 cold cranking amps vs the red top at 800, but I think the difference is the yellow top can last longer on a charge.

I haven't had any trouble with my red-top in my C4 and it has a more powerfull aftermarket stereo and addition security device.
Hmmmm. I thought the yellow top was the hotter battery. Sorry for the wrong info.
I run an MSD digital 6 ignition, an aftermarket alarm / remote start / keyless entry, electric water pump, and aftermarket stereo without any problems. I need a bigger alternator for a higher output at idle though.
At idle the lights will dim if I've got the stereo cranked up but for normal listening levels it's fine.
Sounds like you've got something draining your battery slowly.
I always unhook the positive side terminal , so in that matter nothing is draining it !!! and the worst thing is from where I bought it he don`t want to change it :mad
the thing with this battery is if I don`t use it for about 2 weeks it would go Lo as 10v , but If I use it every day it will be good ,thats why he don`t want to change it because when I went with the battery he charged it and he gave it a load test and It turned out good , but again if I leave it for 2 weeks it will go dead !!! :mad
Now I`v had it with the optima giving me crap all the time so now I am investing in a AC delco bettery and we see what happens
I have red tops in all my cars, and dont have a problem. The one I have in my Chevelle sits for a month sometimes, turn the key and she fires right up. Thats after about 5 yrs and all but the last nine months were in Phoenix where a battery dies after about 2 yrs. IMHO unless you are using big amps or a big ignition system the red will be fine no need for the yellow.
