I'm thinking about buying a set of 40 series flowmaster mufflers for the vette, but i'm not sure if i should get the 2 1/2 offset inlet/center out or the 3 offset inlet/center out. My current exhaust set up is stock, 2 3/4 pipe. Also, should i expect any horsepower gains by installing these mufflers.
That's a good question. My stock 92 exhaust is 3" in some places and necks down to what looks like 2 1/2" at the muffler inlet. My guess would be to measure the pipe before it necks down and try that. I really think an e-mail to Flowmaster would settle this question. Let us know how it works out.
This is why a good cat-back system works best; the stock system has necked or waffle bends which restrict gas flow. Remember flow is restricted more by pipe diameter (actually cross-section area, so square of diameter) than by length.
A mandrel-bent pipe system with hi-flow mufflers is best.
I believe that it is the 2.5". Flowmaster claims up to 30 horses with their exhaust. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and think that I have some SOTP improvements, but it could also just be me gunning it more to hear the exhaust!

True increases show up on a time slip. In any case, you seem to be enjoying your "improvement". And that's why you did it, isn't it? Thanks, for no "pie in the sky" claims.

:iagree: buy the entire cat-back system. it eliminates all the guess work.
