Anyone have any experiance using a power-inverter in their vettes on long road-trips? I am thinking about using one to power my laptop so i can jam to MP3's all the way home!!
I'm curious how it worked out if anyone has done this... thanks!
Never on any long trips in a Vette, but I had a Beretta in high school about 10 years ago and well, at Christmas I ran a string of 35 colored blinking Christmas lights in my back windows. I used a small inverter and it worked well. Oh, the things i did when I was young and stupid. It lit up the entire interior of the car at night while driving down the road......

   What a sight to behold, I'm sure! :D
The waveform of the inverter is critical to the operation of your laptop. The cheaper inverters supply a square wave of 110 volts peak which will usually not operate equipment meant to operate from the power your municipal works supplies which is a sine wave which has 110v RMS and the peak is 155 volts. Best try it out before hand to see if the inverter is compatible. For lights, heating elements and other waveform insensitive devices, the cheaper inverters are ok.
You can usually buy a DC/AC converter that is made for your specific laptop. I'm purchasing one for my Dell as I have a long trip coming up and would like to use my laptop. From what I've found so far they typically run around $80.00 for the model I need.
