Default 95 LT1 - 6M High Idle?

I'm currently idling at about 900 rpm which sounds like it's about double what it's supposed to be. What's the correct procedure to dial it back? Everything is stock.

Thanks, John

Are you sure it's actually 900RPM? The stock tack. is notoriously inaccurate.

You might try cleaning the throttle body and IAC. Also, the temp sensor on the front of the water pump might be bad. Idle is controlled by several things the water temperature being one.

I don't think there is anything you can do to reduce the idle except reprogram the 'puter.

This 900 rpm is what the on board tach shows and it's the same when stone cold or fully warmed up. On a relatively flat surface, I can move off just by easing the clutch out (no gas pedal needed). Maybe it's normal. I have scrubbed the muck off the throttle plate with carb cleaner but have not messed with IAC.

Thanks

If it stays the same warm or cold, what is the difference in the temp readings between the digital (sensor on pump) and analog gauge (sensor on block)?

I don't like just replacing parts, but in this case it's a cheap and easy replacement to put in a new sensor on the water pump.

And the IAC is worth cleaning up.

John,

I've been watching the coolant temp also. Seems that the analog and digital reads are pretty close, but I'll watch them some more. Do I need to remove the throttle body to clean the IAC?

Thanks, John S.

You can probably do it without removing the TB. I've never tried to do it that way. If you remove the TB you can do a much better job of cleaning it as well.

For John Row: I watched the variance between the digital and analog temp gages and they're not as close as I thought. The lowest mark on the analog is theoretically 160 but it starts to move when the digital reads about 130. At 185(A), it shows 170(D). At 210(A), it shows about 200(D). Seems the higher the temp goes the closer the gages become. Guess I'll go for a complete cleaning of the TB and IAC. Vehicle has <74K miles.

Thanks, John
