Default '91 brakes

I have a '91 C4 in need of brake rotors. A quick trip to the one of the local parts stores revealed there are two brake systems for the car, a JL9 and a J55. The store did not have JL9 rotors available. A quick check of the codes and a call to my local dealer confirmed my car has the JL9 system. The dealer tells me the J55 system is heavy duty and the rotors are not interchangeble with the JL9 rotors, but could not tell me why. So I have questions:
1) What is the difference between the JL9 and J55?
2) Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket rotors they would care to pass along?
3) Would anyone care to recommend an aftermarket rotor?
4) What would I need to do to upgrade to the J55 system?

Thanks

I'll defer to the experts, but I believe the package you mention is for the ZR-1 as opposed to a "regular" vette.

I bought a set of GT Rotors for the front and stock rotors for the rear. I think I got them from Lingenfelter, but it may have been "The Last Detail" as well. I remember shopping around on line; most folks offered these and I bought on price.

I believe there are quite a few threads on brake upgrades. My recollection is the upgrade required larger wheels, which discouraged me from doing it.

1) What is the difference between the JL9 and J55?
About 1" in the rotor diameter. Calipers are bigger to accept the larger/wider rotor.

2) Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket rotors they would care to pass along?
Stay away from the rotors that do not have the crossdrilled paterns {b]CAST[/b] in them during the manufactoring process.

3) Would anyone care to recommend an aftermarket rotor?
Quality, Baer, Brembo, KVR

4) What would I need to do to upgrade to the J55 system?
Mounting brackets, calipers, locking pins, rotors.

I be in error here, but I think that the JL9, 12 inch rotor, is the standard brakes through 94. 95 and 96 have the J55 as standard. To change to the J55 you would need the calipers, brackets etc. in addition to the rotors.
