a friend of a friend of a friend, needs a opti installed on his 93 vette. What is a fair price for me to charge him?????? $100, $150??????
he will provide all the parts
Yea, Does he like working on Vettes? Does he want to learn? It would be nice to have someone around to help, even if it is to get tools for you. Have you looked at it yet? I'd look for an oily mess before I quote a price. I hate working on a dirty, oil leaking slob of an engine. Since he wants to replace the opti, Gunk it and power wash it first. Don't be in a hurry or create a no later than time, just causes heart burn. That's my dollar three eighty.
I don't think I'd charge more than beer and pizza. That said, I'd wait and see what kind of person he is. If he's a jerk let him go to the dealer. If not, you may need to call in a favor one day.
Now, having said that, how long do you want to be responsible for everything that happens to his car from that point onward?
a dealer would charge in the neighborhood of $250, so $150 for a friend is fair, or have him buy you dinner and a keg
All the dealerships I called wanted like $1200. $600 just for the Opti and another $600 in labor.
Our dealership is the same, $600 approx parts & $650 labor. And that's just for the opti replacement, no water pump, wires or plugs which should be done in conjunction with this project. What does he have to offer in exchange? A good friend, I'd do it. A creep, he's on his own.
