I am getting ready to do a Dana 44 swap, I have chosen to run the Redline 75w90. The bottle says it has the limited slip additive mixed in with it. Anyone using this product? Feedback would be great..
I am. I sucked out the old fluid, (which only had 3000 miles on it) and used the red line with no additional additive. Cant really tell you much other then that. The rear end was quiet before and still is. Oh, by the way, I had the GM fluid and a bottle of GM additive in it from before.
Be aware that Redline is one of only a handful of lubricants not approved by GM for use in your car. Redline has elected to forego industry-standard research, development and testing steps set by the American Petroleum Institute.
Heavy sponsorship is much more effective at developing race hype...which in turn, sells product to Joe Consumer. Redline is not API certified to pass widely accepted GL (gear lube) wear tests. GM, Ford, Chrysler, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, BMW (and all other rwd vehicles I know of) require differential gear oil that has passed API GL-5 certification.
Race lubes are desiged for max RWHP. They do not contain additive packages for extended service intervals, nor do they offer the low wear characteristics of street API-certified lubes. Racers look for fractional horsepower gains at the expense of accelerated hardware wearout.
Leading API-certified street lubes have very different goals. They are designed to provide very low wear and extended service interval.
I use it in the rear end...thats it though. I think they have two kinds, one with the addititive and one without. I had the one without it already in there and added a bottle of additive.
I’ve found it best not to ask questions about Redline products on this forum. Seems to be deep resentful history. Once stated I ran Redline MTL & loved it and took a beating. Here recently someone posted that the ZF Doc (ZR51 Performance) was now publicly stating that it was fine to use MTL in the ZF and the thread got shut down by the moderator within a day. When I took a beating for my opinion on Redline products it was allowed to run for days??
FWIW, I run Mobil-1 75-90 rear lube with a bottle of GM additive. I also drilled & tapped the bottom my Dana 44 case for a 1/4" NPT pipe plug.
I talked to the Redline tech and he said that it cost a ton of money to have there stuff api approved and they would have to change the chemistry of it to meet there guide lines. Basic lower the quality... I will try it and see how it goes, No additive.
I have been running the RedLine fluids since my car has been new. Never had any such problems. I would rather run the RedLine fluids then run Wal-Mart or Flag (Kragen house brand) that’s API certified. API certified doesn’t mean a damm thing to me.
Doctor says eat more veggie, meats bad for you. Don't tell me you don’t eat any meat.
API is just no more than a certification. It doesn’t guarantee you anything. Boy somehow some of you have been brain washed by the General and if you guys ever wake up someday you might smell the coffee.
Another one here. As long as you use the 75W90 (and not the 75W90NS) you won't need the additive.
Boy, I have never seen so much Redline-bashing as I have on this forum... :leaving:
:yesnod:
I've been running 75W90 without any additive since the car was new.
I've been running Lightweight Shockproof in my ZF for 4 years and MTL before that.
I've been running their oil for 2 years.
Before the GS, I used their products in my '90 L98. Basically I have about 10 years of experience with them and have seen no ill effects.
