Default VSS/ECM relation question

What exactly does my ECM (6870) do with the info from my VSS ? I read that the cluster 1/2's the signal and sends it to the ECM, but what does it use it for? Im trying to ditch my digital cluster and my Camaro replacment doesnt seem to have a VSS output to ECM (if it does I havent found it yet). With WINALDL I verified the ECM gets no signal when the stock cluster is unplugged.

That's a pretty good link. One point I thought I would throw out in the open is that for my 870-730 swap, I didn't need to change from magnetic/optical or back again. I use the AUJP BIN which is for an F-body.

If you try that method for the 870-730 and it doesn't work out, lemme know.

Good luck, -Matt
