Default ram/cold air kits

Alright, I don't want the kit that replaces the front license plate panel, so which kits are out there and what are their pros/cons?
I know of the SLP kit and what it includes from their website. TPIS would only tell me the part number and price for their kit, but they wanted me to buy their catalog to see pictures of it. What else is out there? How do these systems perform?
Thanks
Chris

There was a couple good posts within the last 2 weeks. Try a search on vortex ram air or cold air kit. Most seem to think, that you should go with a cut lid and k&n filter and spend the $ elsewhere. Personally I am ordering the Vortex kit. I'm closing in on 12's and need every bit of power from my current set up.

None of them help as much as advertised, and they arent much better than a K&N with cut lid.

On the L98, the TPiS/Vortex/SLP are real CAI setups. SLP is probably cheapest and is what i'm going with, because the bolts holding my lid are broken (previous owners).

They do help the L98 more than LT1, by a few hp. Just dont expect 10-20 like advertised.

I have the SLP claw and I can voutch for that--time is maybe .05 s
faster in quarter w/ LT1 if it's that.

Default ram/cold air kits

I have an SLP ram air kit on my '85.
It goes in front of the radiator in a direct path with the front air, unlike the Vortex Ram Air setup (Which does LOOK cool, but that's about it).

I enlarged the scoop to about 3" and could feel a difference of pull after 60mph. I also want to add, that after adding the Ram air, my coolant temps went up by like 10-15degrees, as it was restricting airflow to the radiator.
I fixed that easily, by removing the large plastic 'lip that sits right under the
ram air scoop. This way the temps are back to 170-185 again in warm weather. :D

I have the SLP ram-air and like it. It comes with a stock size K&N so is a pretty good deal.

It's worth about 5hp over the cut lid with K&N and pulls in the 2nd 1/8mi. I can see my O2 sensor readings drop from 940mV to around 900mV.

I too opened up the "scoop" to larger area for better ram effect.

You might want to do some searching regarding the Vortex kit. I've heard it has some quality "issues" :nonod:

Thanks for all the input, guys.

I'll probably go with the slp unit. I'd heard about the quality issues of the vortex unit, so I wasn't even considering it.

Can one of you guys with the opened up scoop shoot a pic and email it to me?
Thanks,
Chris
