Default Ease with no db9 port

Okay, I got my new Ease software and got all excited about trying it out only to find that my laptop has no db9 port.

So what should I do?

I thought about coverting the db9 to USB, but the ease site says that the body and chassis data couldn't be accessed with that connection.

But my laptop does have a parallel port. Will it work better if I convert the db9 to parallel port? Should that work trouble free?

I'm so pissed I can't use my new toy :cry

Thanks for the help!

Jason

I had the same trouble with my laptop. I bought a USB to Serial adapter from Ebay that said it was pretty universal. Its from "Palm" as in Palm pilot. It didnt work with WinALDL- my laptop would absolutely not recognize a com port with it. It did come with software by the way. Then when I was about to give up I found a USB to Serial adapter at radio shack, and since they said I could return it within 30 days if it didnt work I gave it a try- and it worked! The moral of my story is some may work and some may not. Good luck finding one. BTW- I'll sell my Palm cable/software for $6 + shipping, its basically new in box. I paid $8 + shipping. Thanks

forget about serial-parallel. The most "universal" serial-USB is from Belkin, but it's pricey (about $50). The Belkin website sometimes have reconditioned ones for $23.

Thanks for your help,

I finally read the EASE help section on this problem and see that I will have to go USB.

Thanks for the advice on the Belkin converter, I will pick one up from microcenter tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Jason
