$3 Fan switch overide
Saw a post on another forum by a guy who sliced into the wiring and ran a switch to the dash to manually contol his fans, while still allowing the computer to run them too. Anyone else see this or try it?
It sounded like the best of both worlds type of fix, I just am not sure that I followed his post very well.
well, theres probobly quite a few people out there running a manual fan operation on there dash or where ever.i did it only cause my fan switch wasn't working.i had good results with a cooler running motor and all the goodies but it was a hassel to do it the cheap way.not hard, just having to operate it urself is a biotch sometimes. it got old and was time to replace it with a new unit.i wouldnt' cut up your dash for a toggle or push botton but u could re-splice ur own wires and rig it to fit stealth like under ur dash somewhat. the best thing about the manual switch is when ur at the track and u want the ultimate cool down inbetween runs u have that option. or flip em on at 100F and it will take a long while to get warm! just my piece of mind......very little i have buts thats it. :jester
There is another active post on the subject with some good info on a couple of approaches. Depends on what you want to accomplish.
I just wanted my engine running cooler. Already have the lower temp ECM chip and thermostat. For the fan I just wired the relay input directly to ground and run it all the time the ignition switch is on. Works fine for me and my temp stays 170-180 all the time.

BTW, the $3 is for a switch.
If you're talking about trying the switch trick on a 96, it WONT work. You will definitely throw a code with the OBDII.
