Default rear diff fluid capacity

Hey all.
I just put the rear back in from the gear swap, and need to know how much fluid. The parts guy said three qts plus the additive, but it started running out after 1.5 qts and the additive. Does this sound right?

The Dana 44 in my 96 is 1.5 quarts of oil plus 4 oz of GM additive. I think your parts guy is wrong. Pretty sure Dana 36 is same, shouldn't be more.

Curious what fluid you used???

GM calls for 80W-90 GL-5, I just refilled with Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-90 with 4 oz of additive. The synthetic seems to have really quieted down the whine I've had with the 4.10's. Need to run it a little more to be sure.

I used the same fluid as you. I also went with the 4.10 gear in my dana 44. How much of a diff did you feel?
