Hey guys, thanks to all for the info a few weeks ago on where to buy a new opti and waterpump. I got them from Jason at the dealership in FL, both parts SHIPPED for $433    That's cheaper by almost 1/2 than what the mechanic said he could get them for!! Altogether parts and labor it was about $785.
Thanks again ya'll!! The forum is amazing!
BTW I spoke to the mechanic today after he had a chance to take the opti apart and he said he didn't know how I even made it there (barely did I might add) because the opti was trashed. Completely rusted and the bearing was just gone! The waterpump was pretty trashed too
you should have brought it over to my place and i would have helped ya fix it over here ;). Since i'm out of a job 25% of what mechanics charge would work for me!
Let us know how much better it runs now... i remember after replacing mine it was like a new car again!
I was amazed at the first Opti I replaced that the car ran at all, let alone just a bit of missing at 80MPH and a rough idle. It looked like someone opened a junkyard in there.
For $785 you could have purchased $200 in tools, done it yourself and still have $580 in your pocket and the tools! Even though you're a girl-girl:D
John, that was parts and labor, the parts were about $450 and the rest was labor. I tried to hit my buddy up to help me but this was too big a job for him to do on anyone's car but his own so I had to pay. Good thing too cuz it turns out I will be driving the car to the cruise in now instead of riding along with some friends.
Did you get the car back yet? I was wondering if you could send me your trashed Opti.. I would liike to take it apart..
Jeff, I left it with the mechanic and he took it apart to double check that was the problem (since I took the car to him with my own diagnosis.) I can see if he still has it if you want it? Dropping my 85 off there today, lemme know. :seeya

Careful John, You'll have the "Woman Liberation Party" hunting you down. :D
Jenn: Mine went out at about 55K on my '94. Fortunately, I bought an extended warranty on the car and GM took care of it for me.
In fact, I got them to replace the infamous leaky LT-1 intake seal, the a/c controls, the CD player, the digital dash display and repair the transmission (OD issues).
Felt like it was important to get my money's worth on the warranty!
I fried my optispark on my 93. Need to replace it and thought I should go ahead and do the water pump as well. Can you give me the info on the parts place in FL that had such great prices? Are you happy with the results?
