Can I turn my engine backwards?

Maybe a silly question.... I had it lined up at TDC #1 before removing the distributor. Then I found I needed the serpentine belt off; in pulling on the belt, I rotated the crank maybe 15-20* past TDC.

So can I just grab the crank pulley with the belt and move it backwards a little? Or do I have to spin it 2 full rotations forward and line it up again?

You can spin it backwards.

I just throw mine in 5th gear and push it forward or backwards. I just remove the plugs so it does move.

Yup, sure can. Just doublecheck to make sure the car is in neutral (ask me how I know :bb )
