A/C Question on my '85
When I turn the A/C on in my '85 the idle fluctuates. Any idea what causes this? The A/C is working, but the idle going up and down is annoying. Thanks for your input! :chevy

It most likely coincides with the AC compressor clutch. The A/C doesn't operate 100% of the time when it's on, it actually fluctuates on and off. You can watch the compressors clutch engage and disengage right there on the ac pulley. At idle, your engine is making just enough power to turn itself over. The extra strain put on it by the compressor will make it stumble a bit, and the IAC should open up more to counter it, hence the delay.
Sounds normal to me, as long as your idle is steady with the A/C off, you should be ok.
