Question about auto trans

I competed in my first autocross in 9 years today with my 93 Corvette. I have the auto trans. Even though I kept it in 1st gear my last 2 runs, I could have sworn that it upshifted to second by itself, then back down to first when I floored the throttle. Is that how this transmission is suppose to work?

You absolutely sure you had it in 1st? It can slip out if its not locked in. Actually my shifter boot wont really let me pull mine down to lock into first.

I dont think so. I know I have hit the rev limiter in first gear and it didnt shift.

Prior to adjustment my shifter was almost impossible to actually get into 1st gear though the lever appeared to be there.
