ok guys, on the way to work today my worktruck threw its third fan in about 2 months....i park it at a gas station and get a ride back to my place so i can grab my vett to run my route( i am a courrier) the route goes fine and is a lot better with AC as opposed to the truck... i notice that most of the day that my digital coolant guage is flashing eratic numbers between 117 and 228. my other analog coolant guage says its fine and im not to worried about it. just some electrical glitch i suppose i can fix that anytime.... well on the way home my car starts wanting to drive me crazy as i get into heavier traffic and slower speeds. as soon as i shift into a gear my car starts pulsating and wanting to lurch forward. happens mostly at slower speeds lower gears and lower rpms. i was sitting in nuetral once on the way back and was watching the tach start to dance up and down about a couple hundred rpms. is this possibly nothing more than my opti? please tell me its nothing more than that! im getting worried about my baby guys!
I had the same type of symptoms and it turned out to be a vacuum leak under the right rail cover , it was a 3 way vacuum T with a check valve. I don't know if you have the same problem but it's worth a check.
But on an LT1, the pass. side 3-way with the vacuum check valve is the bi-level control for the HVAC unit...:crazy
A'course, just fixing the vacuum leak might've done the trick. Gordon Killebrew told us that damaging/cracking that valve makes the HVAC blow all the time through all the available outlets.
well guys according to my mechanic both problems have the same cause. my waterpump coolant temp sensor is bad and since it keeps flashing eratic numbers the ecu picks up on that and since the fuel injection system partially relys on coolant and engine temperature the ecu is telling it to dump in more fuel at eratic moments in sync with the coolant readout. this is all according to my mechanic who is a good friend of mine and i trust. he mentioned the fact that i bumped the sensor pretty hard when i was working around it a few weeks ago and it finally shot. he said that would explain all the problems. so now i just have to get through today. i am going to pick up the piece and hopefully get it fixed tomorrow afternoon. i will kepp you all updated
The ECT sensor is, among other things, how the ECM decides whether or not to be in Open Loop or Closed Loop operation. It affects fuel delivery, for sure.
