He is correct, they are located there on my '87 also. Take off the gill panel to get to the battery and they are to the right of it (staring straight at the battery) mounted to the firewall with 2 nuts each.
I also have an 87 and I just replaced both relays last week. They are mounted on the firewall right behind the battery on my 87. They should be in plain site when looking at the battery. :auto:
I would definetly try replacing the relays before buying a new MAF. I believe I paid around $16 for both relays from AutoZone, If you want GM parts I am sure you will pay more. But my ones from autozone work just fine. You might want to try pulling the relays and checking the continuity across the contacts before buying new ones. There should be a diagram on the side of the relay with the schematic and terminal #s. :seeya
Well I now have the new burn-off relays installed, but still have a miserable engine. So my buddy's going to bring the MAF sensor from his 86 for me to try before buying a new (rebuilt) one.
I found GM wanted $722 CDN (522 USD), I got a buddy who works for Lordco Auto Parts in Vancouver BC. He said he can get the exact same one that GM sells for $440 CDN (318 USD) - same price as MidAmerica.
I can get a Neihoff rebuilt one for $187 CDN (135 USD) from Bumper to Bumper. It comes with a 1 year warranty. I think I'll buy this one.
I tried to find a high flow model but had no luck.
