Does anyone have a GM, NAPA, or generic temperature switch part number that will screw into the water jacket in the head, on at 195, off at 180, or something close to or lower than this? I understand this is controlled by the ECM, just wanting a very quick solution, and I'm not ready for the ECM programming yet.
Not interested in those that attach to the radiator or slip into a hose, two bulky.
Hypertech would be OK if necessary, but a "standard" is probably out there.
The switch that is in the block between #1 & #3 turns on the auxilliary fan, not the main fan. The main fan is operated by the ecm from temp info from the temp sender under the MAF. The block switch is set for on at 238 F . There are block switches that turn on at a lower temp and with simple wiring, can be made to turn on the main fan.
You are correct, the temperature switch you are speaking of normally operates the aux fan. Yes, normally the main fan is operated by the ECM. Don't wish to reprogram the ECM at this time.
The temperature switch here will be used to operate the main fan, in lieu of the ECM. There is no aux fan on this car. (This L98 has a big block Nova radiator!)
Looking for similar switch as used on the aux fan, but with much lower temperature settings (195 on/180off or maybe lower)
Thought someone might know of such a switch, or a listing of such switches on the internet, that one might be selected. Thanks for your input.
Do you happen to know what thread that is in the head?
Gene,
Mid-America sells a 200/185 (But mine really turned out to be a 195/180) for $13 under part # 609-106

Thats the one I got as well. I also got the conversion harness that taps into the fan relay so the main fan will also come on at the lower temp. I think the two cost me like $25
The coolant temp sensor in the front of the block is used by the ECM to control the main fan (behind the radiator).
The coolant temp sensor in the block below #1 & #3 plugs only controls the aux fan (in front of the radiator).
You can wire this aux fan switch into the main fan relay (on the rear of the left inner wheel well) so that it also brings on the main fan; see my C4 Tech Tip. Summit racing may have a HyperTech aux fan switch in your range of interest.
You can also buy a in-line plug in connector that causes the computer to think the engine is hotter than it really is. Autozone sells these for the 160 or 180 thermo for $45.
